Welcome to Gut Bütow

The breeding station Dr. Niehoff is situated at Bütow in the Mecklenburg Lake District, on sandy soils of the terminal moraine.

Since 1991, we have been breeding potatoes in this former state owned station. We have famous starch potato varieties in the market, as well as very early maturing table varieties. In 2001, our venture was first certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000-12. Re-certification takes place at regular intervals. Our region is listed as a high grade region for seed potato production. All our seed production starts from in vitro plants grown in a certified laboratory.

Our breeding activities focus on the development of multi-resistant varieties that can withstand different pathotypes of G. pallida and G. rostochiensis nematodes, as well as potato wart disease (Synchytrium endobioticum).

In search of innovative farming solutions and new varieties we annualy employ more than 2,000 trial plots of grain and potatoes.
